Persecuted Church

Open Doors' current research suggests that more than 245 million Christians are persecuted. That is 1 in 9 Christians in the world today. According to The Pew Research Center, over 75% of the world’s population lives in areas with severe religious restrictions (and many of these people are Christians). Also, according to the United States Department of State, Christians in more than 60 countries face persecution from their governments or surrounding neighbors simply because of their belief in Jesus Christ.

What Can You Do?

Organizations like Open Doors USA and The Voice of the Martyrs work to serve persecuted Christians around the world and create opportunities for believers to take action. Open Doors offers several ways to get involved and The Voice of the Martyrs has projects such as Action Packs and Adopt A Front-Line Worker.

Possibly the greatest thing we can do for our brothers and sisters who face persecution is pray! There are many prayer resources that will help guide you as you pray for the persecuted church. Tools such as Front-Line Prayer and the Open Doors Prayer App will provide you with specific prayer requests from Christians in countries where persecution is their every day reality. Each year, Open Doors USA publishes the World Watch List, a list of the 50 most persecuted countries in the world. This list provides you with a detailed description of the persecution faced by Christians in each country on the list along with specific prayer points.
