Day 16: His promises are not just to make us feel better

READ IT
Joshua 21:45
“Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

TAKE IT TO HEART
Too often we read the promises of God to feel better. We remind ourselves that God has promised to strengthen us, to sustain us, to guide us, to protect us, to come through for us, and we smile because we know God is good. Then we go our merry way not expecting anything out of the ordinary to happen.

I think God means for us to do more than feel good about His promises. He means for us to put our hope in them because He fully intends to keep them. The slogan we use in the Prayer Clinic is “God’s Got This!” No matter what “this” is, we know God’s got it!

When we pray with people in the Prayer Clinic, we ask them to put into words what they are asking God to do, so that we can know when He does it! If we truly believe God will get involved in the details of our lives and that all of His promises will be fulfilled, we will present our petitions to Him and wait in expectation like David did in Psalm 5:3,

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.

PRAY FOR THESE THINGS TODAY:
  • What do you want God to do in your life? Google the promises in the Bible related to what you are praying for. Choose one of them and sit with it for a few minutes. Imagine that this promise is for you–for now–and tell God you will wait expectantly for Him to make good on it.
  • The election is right around the corner. You probably didn’t see this in the news but 250,000 women gathered in the Washington DC mall on October 12 to pray for our nation. Make a commitment to pray between now and election day on November 5. Here is a downloadable prayer guide.
  • Don’t forget to invite your neighbors to ATM!! Who might you know who needs to know your Promise Keeping God? Ask God to give you the opportunity to bring them on Sunday.
