Day 37: extravagant worship
Think of the last time you were extravagant for someone you love. What did you do? What did it cost you? How was it received? The woman who anointed Jesus’ feet with the expensive perfume, then wiped them with her hair, performed an extravagant act of worship. Her love for Jesus made everyone uncomfortable but Him. He received it and lavished her with His love in return.
Luke 7:36-38–Then one of the Pharisees invited Him to eat with him. He entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. And a woman in the town who was a sinner found out that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house. She brought an alabaster jar of fragrant oil and stood behind Him at His feet, weeping, and began to wash His feet with her tears. She wiped His feet with the hair of her head, kissing them and anointing them with the fragrant oil.
PRAY: Ask God to give you an opportunity to express your love for Him today. Think about what that might “cost” you. Commit to it now. Reflect on this extravagant act of worship and ask the LORD to increase the love that fuels your relationship with Him.
