Day 3: Make the most of your time!

READ IT
Ephesians 5:15-21
15  Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise—  16  making the most of the time, because the days are evil.  17  So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.  18  And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit:  19  speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord,  20  giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  21  submitting to one another in the fear of Christ.

TAKE IT TO HEART
What are the big rocks in your life?

Imagine you had an empty jar and some rocks, pebbles, and sand.  It was your job to fill that jar with those things.  If you started with the sand, it would be very hard to get many rocks in the jar.  If you filled the jar with pebbles, there would not be much room for the rocks or sand.  You would have to think about it and set up your priorities.

Each day, we all start with an empty jar.  The rocks represent the most important priorities in our life.  The pebbles represent the medium priorities we have while the sand is the least important things.  If we fill our jar with the smaller things, such as sand, it leaves us little room for the important things, or the big rocks.

Take time today, and ask God to help you Identify your big rocks.  What are the most important things?  Verse sixteen in today’s verses says, “making the most of the time, because the days are evil.”  Are you filling your day with things for the Kingdom?  That can be work.  Are you using your work as an opportunity to share Christ with others?  That can be done with words or actions.  A man once said he told everyone he knows about Jesus, and sometimes he used words.

Are you spending time with God each day?  The Bible app has several daily Bible reading plans.  Some of them are a few days long while some will help you read the entire Bible over the course of a year.
A former pastor I once preached a sermon entitled, “Keeping the main thing, the main thing.” Our biggest rock needs to be Christ, the Solid Rock.  If we focus on making Him a priority in our life, the pebbles and the sand of our life will fall into place.

LIVE IT
• In the course of a day, is God a high priority in your time?  Do you read your Bible first thing in the morning or the last thing at night?  Do you spend time with Him during lunch? Schedule some time to spend with the Father this week.  It’s never too late to start.
• Pray: Lord, help me to make You a priority in my life.  Help me to focus on spending time with You by reading Your Word and speaking to You in prayer.

GO DEEPER
So many great truths are found in Jesus’ sermon on the mount.  It begins in Matthew 6, but if you go to verse 25, He talks about how we should not worry.  Verse 33 tells us to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.”  Read Matthew 6:25-34 ask Jesus what priorities are the most important
