Day 3: The armor of God (part 2)

READ IT
Ephesians 6:13-17

13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

TAKE IT TO HEART
You’re in the Lord’s Army

Let’s continue our look at the different pieces of the armor of God.

The shield of faith gives us certainity.  For the soldier, his shield was about two by four feet and covered in leather.  Your faith is a defensive weapon.  It protects us from the arrows of Satan.  During Roman times, enemies would dip arrows in oil and light them on fire.  That leather shield would protect soldiers from the flames of their enemy.  At times, soldiers would stand shoulder to shoulder, creating a wall of shields.  Stand firm with your brother and sisters in Christ, and unite with our faith in Christ that we can withstand the darkness in this world.

The helmet of salvation protects our mind, which should be like Christ’s.  The head controls the body.  We do whatever our brains tell the rest of our body to do.  While Satan is after our heart, he is also after our minds.  Our salvation has to be the driving force behind our lives.  The next time Satan attacks your mind, remind him that you are protected by God Himself.

Last, but certainly not least, is the only offensive piece of our armor, the sword of the Spirit.  The Word of God is the most powerful weapon in the universe, and you have access to it.  When Satan attempted to tempt Jesus in the wilderness in Matthew 4, Jesus did not use his supernatural power to combat His enemy, He used God’s Word.  Satan himself will try to use God’s Word like he did with Jesus, but if we know the Word of God like we are supposed to, we can correct Satan and attack him.

While all of these pieces of armor are great, they work the best when used together.  So, make sure you are wearing every piece and prepare for battle, soldier.
